Introduction

The course provides a detailed overview of what and how an architect should understand design considerations when taking on a renovation, remodel, addition, relocation, or change of occupancy to any building or historic building.

Description

The course will instruct the attendee on the proper use of the prescriptive, performance or work area compliance methods and the required level of the alterations to the building.

Objective

•Understand the need to properly classify a compliance method with the proper level of alteration;
•Be able to discern the difference between a prescriptive compliance method versus a performance method;
•Understand how the Work Area compliance method is used and how it works with either a prescriptive or performance method; and
•Explain to a plan reviewer in a concise manner, both visually ( and verbally, the design
parameters affected by the use of the Existing Building Code.
