Introduction

The word Resilience may assume different meanings pop to different people in different contexts. It is crucial that we all have the same understanding of the term so we can align our efforts towards improving the resilience of the buildings and communities we design and build.

Description

The AIA National and AIA Florida have been advocating for the adoption of a wide range of measures to increase the resilience of buildings, businesses, and communities against different hazards. Florida, under Governor DiSantis leadership, is also taking measures to reduce the impact of natural disasters and other climate change generated stresses in our residents, built environment and economy.

Objective

Discuss the definition of Resilience and its different forms.
Examine the current AIA National position and trends.
Identify AIA Florida’s standing and initiatives.
Explore present and future public projects to increase Resilience throughout the state.

All AIA Florida courses are in compliance with AIA CES guidelines, which states that all courses must be updated every three years. Additionally, all Advanced FBC courses are in compliance with the Florida Building Commission, which states the course is valid for two years, and can renewed only if there are no codes changes. Courses purchased through AIA Florida should be completed and submitted for credit within the allotted timeframes. No refunds or transfers will be granted for expired courses.
