PHILOSOPHY:
AIA is about leadership. As a long recognized leader of the Institute, AIA Florida is at the top of the list of leading components. Leadership is not about finding followers to execute plans. Rather leadership is about creating more leaders. We as AIA Florida have a rich tradition of many leaders who have gone on to have valuable contributions to the Institute.

As a leader of AIA Florida it is incumbent on us to advocate for the profession as a whole. We are the lead profession in protecting the health, safety and welfare of the public. As such, our leaders must be involved inbettering their communities for the quality of life that all expect. As natural born leaders, AIA’s leadership must have an active voice in creating the sense of community across the state. As portals to creating the built environment, we must lead in the creation of the places we live, work and play.

PHILOSOPHY:
Connect, engage, lead, and innovate. These are the core values of AIA’s recent repositioning efforts and they succinctly convey what it means to effectively move our profession forward.

We must continue to embrace these values and lead the way in advocating for our profession, increasing public awareness about the value of design, and expanding our knowledge-sharing opportunities – all clearly in concert with national goals and local efforts.

Together, as a strong, cohesive, member-driven organization, we can accomplish great things, elevate our profession, and ensure a relevant organization with a bright future. As a candidate for First Vice President / President-Elect, I would like to continue my commitment to AIA, working collaboratively with members from around the state to build on AIA Florida’s strengths, develop and evaluate new opportunities, promote design, and ensure member value. I ask for your support.

PHILOSOPHY:

Recently, Architects have felt the effects of a devastating recession, endured attacks to the profession, and weathered attempts to erode our responsibilities as the leader in the design and CONSTRUCTION process. As we strive to recover from these threats, AIA Florida must continue as a strong voice for the Architectural profession, and with that voice;

articulate the value our services, convey the importance of our involvement our local community, and advocate for growth in our industry.

I believe AIA Florida should continue to educate the public about the profession and our important role in the economic growth of our community. We need to provide venues for Architects to explore opportunities in globalization and expanding their marketplace. AIA Florida must empower the next generation of Architects by learning and responding to their needs, cultivating the future of our profession, and constructing the pipeline for their involvement in leadership, both in our association and in their communities. We must clearly communicate our efforts to our membership, and in doing so, we will illustrate the value of AIA membership to those outside of the association.

As a candidate for Secretary/Treasurer, I want to continue to help build on our strengths, explore our opportunities, amplify our voice, and help lead the way to a successful future. I ask for your support.

PHILOSOPHY:

I believe that architects are in a unique professional position - we get to make the world a better place every day! I believe that no one accomplishes anything by themselves. I believe in TEAM and I believe in honest, candid collaboration. I believe that our people are our greatest asset. I believe it is our responsibility to do everything in our power to fully educate our future leaders. I believe that everyone should have a seat at the table - that everything is made better by open collaboration. I believe in Design and that Design is a service. I believe in our clients and include them fully in the process; I do not believe that only the architect knows best. I trust our clients and fully expect that their inclusion leads us to the correct, unique solution for their project. When hired by a client, we are entrusted with a great responsibility: they allow us to participate in an adventure where their money, dreams, and future are being entrusted to us. I am so proud to be an Architect and to have had the opportunity to be a part of something larger and greater than myself.

Candidate for Vice President 2017-2018 (two positions for two-year terms)

Stephen Panzarino, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP

Stephen is a 1984 graduate from the New Jersey School of Architecture and moved to Florida with his wife and two daughters in 2003. Stephen has been a member of the AIA Florida Gulf Coast Chapter since 2006 and has volunteered his time by serving on the Executive Committee during that period.

Stephen has been integrally involved in shaping the direction and vision for the Gulf Coast Chapter since he joined, and in 2010 was elected State Director. As a member of the AIA Florida Board he has been an active participant on the Finance, Membership and Advocacy committees as well as a member of the FAPAC Board. He was also a member of the committee to reshape the current Board structure and helped define the foundation of the Strategic Council.

PHILOSOPHY:

I have a simple two-part philosophy relative to serving the AIA: stewardship and mentorship; both I believe compliment each other nicely. We have the honor of holding

leadership positions with the AIA for a brief time and it is our responsibility as leaders to be good stewards of the organization. Seeing first hand the changes brought about with the newly restructured Board of Directors and the Strategic Council, the energy is infectious and is already seeing positive results. This will ensure a prosperous organization for the future.

Mentorship should be a primary goal of the AIA, and learning from those who came before us will provide valuable insight on decisions that will guide our future. Providing emerging professionals with knowledge and experience will realize the full potential this organization has to offer.

As Vice President, I feel I will be able to help continue the dialog started when we built the latest three year strategic plan. The strategic plan established five goals and defined performance metrics to meet these goals. I believe I have the ability to meet these metrics and help achieve the five goals defined in our plan. I am excited to help advance these issues on behalf of the Florida AIA.

Candidate for Associate Director at Large 2017-2018 (one position for a two-year term)

Trevor Boyle, Assoc. AIA

Trevor is currently an intern architect in the design department at HuntonBrady Architects. He earned his Bachelor of Design in Architecture, magna cum laude, from the University of Florida in 2010 where he was a member of the AIAS and DBIA. He worked in the field and taught drafting and design classes in between degrees. While working full time he completed the Master of Architecture program in 2015 at the Orlando CityLab campus for the University of Florida.

Since his graduation, Trevor has been an associate member for the Florida AIA. He serves on the committee for the Orlando chapter of the Young Architects Forum, and is actively engaged in facilitating and attending local events for Central Florida’s emerging professionals. He has also stayed active with UF and has taught at the Sarasota CityLab campus for their Master in Architecture program.

He is currently in progress for architect registration in the State of Florida, finalizing IDP hours in his role at HuntonBrady while taking the ARE. In the small amounts of free time

that he may stumble across, Trevor enjoys running and exploring the trails of Florida’s beautiful state parks with his wife and dogs.

PHILOSOPHY:
Architecture needs to relate to its context and be sensitive to the environment it is designed for. In order for this idea to flourish, we as trained professionals must place more emphasis in educating the local community on the benefits of smart and purposeful design.

As important as it is to network with one’s peers in the industry, an architect must be connected to the people in the community in which they work. Architecture requires such a varied knowledge base that only talking with other architects would make it impossible to grow.
