Introduction

Florida is suffering from a lack of equitable and affordable housing with a shortage of over 344,000 affordable homes for low-income families, while affordable housing for middle-income families is becoming increasingly more difficult to access.

Description

Architects can help improve the current situation by becoming knowledgeable of potential, and existing public and private incentives given to the construction of affordable housing. Innovative typologies, construction methods and materials can also impact the cost and availability of homes accessible to low-income families.

Objective

This course will discuss the causes and magnitude of the equitable and affordable housing shortages throughout Florida.
