AIA Gainesville has partnered with AIAS UF to host online "Ask an Architect" sessions. The sessions take place on Fridays from 12:15-1:15 pm and are a new program launched to provide an open forum for architecture students to ask practicing architects any questions they have about what it's like to be an architect.
The program kicked-off on May 15th, with two successful sessions to date. Both sessions prompted great discussions and have been really well received by both the students and architect volunteers.
The program is reaching out to AIAS chapters throughout the state to expand the reach to more students. The program also looks to establish a state-wide rotation of architect volunteers interested in sharing their professional experience and expertise with student attendees. (This could be as much as once a month, or as little as just once!)
Working remotely over the course of the past few month has shown us that not only can we reach a wide audience with relatively ease, but that students, currently separated from their design studios, now more than ever are yearning for meaningful content and connection to their peers and future profession. We as an organization have a wonderful opportunity to help fill that void and provide a service to aspiring students of architecture.
