Amidst the urban bustle of Miami Beach, this family home is a waterfront oasis geared for the subtropical lifestyle. Shaded by a grove of coconut palms, the dark steel exterior allows the landscape to take prominence. In lieu of deeply cantilevered shading elements, the home relies upon a series of vertical ‘fins’ and the dense tree canopy to shade its south-facing windows. The home has four bedrooms, a spacious kitchen/dining/living area and a covered terrace that encourages outdoor living. The second-floor master bedroom is set back to ensure greater privacy. The design uses local stone to ground the design to its specific location, rooting it into its context further.
